ARTIST SPOTLIGHT #4- Mr. Dickie Weed

Mr. Dickie Weed- "If You Ain't Country, You Ain't Shit"

Welcome to redpeterssongsnatch.com and Episode #4 of my interview series, The Song Snatch ARTIST SPOTLIGHT where I feature a short conversation with THE most original recording artists on the planet and play one of their remarkable, uncut and uncensored, funny and fucked up songs.

Today’s spotlight is on Mr. Dickie Weed, the pseudonym for gifted Nashville songwriter, Micheal Smotherman, who in  real life, has had his songs recorded by the likes of Roger Miller, Glenn Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, the Allman Brothers, Trace Adkins, Brooks and Dunn, and many more.

But when he wants to just have some fun and record for himself and his friends, he takes those same songwriting skills and creates some of the funniest, and highest quality songs of anyone I know.

I spoke with Dickie in October 2006 and got a sense of his attitude and approach towards the art of songwriting and how his songs come about, including a song true to his heart, “If You Ain’t Country, You Ain’t Shit”!

Enjoy music lovers.

(episode running time- 9 minutes and 11 seconds)

(You can learn more about Mr. Dickie Weed and listen to more of his great songs at myspace.com/dickieweed and can download them on itunes.)

Hello Music Lovers,

Have you ever bumped into an old acquaintance you haven’t seen in a while and they say, “I was just thinking about you the other day!”

Well, you might want to give it a second thought, especially after tuning into Song Snatch #19 when you hear New York comic, Jackie “The Jokeman” Martling, and his song, “And I’m Thinkin’ About You”!

SONG SNATCH #18- "I Can't Say These Things" by Red Peters

HELLO MUSIC LOVERS,

I’m from the school that when you are told by the authorities that you can’t say or shouldn’t say something, you say it anyway, just to defy them.

But with humor, of course!

Help me celebrate Independence Day and exercise our freedom of speech by tuning into Song Snatch #18 to hear a song that I, Red Peters recorded in 2005 that challenged censorship and bolstered Howard Stern’s battle with the FCC before leaving terrestrial radio. Even the bleeped version was eventually banned on his show, but became the very first song to play uncensored on The Howard Channels when he moved to Sirius Satellite Radio.

You be the judge. Here’s the unbleeped version of my song, “I Can’t Say These Things”.

(episode running time- 4 minutes and 21 seconds)

(You can find both the bleeped and unbleeped versions of “I Can’t Say These Things” and all my other songs at www.redpeters.com, and at itunes, amazon, napster, rhapsody, oglio and all fine download sites.)
